Keep going

It has been a little over four months since I last wrote something for the news page, so I thought I should at least provide a small 2022 update here. I’ve not died; just been busy.

I’ve started the 2022 annual highlights page now so please head over there for a few selected photos which I think stand out. As usual, highlights from various trips in full can be found on the Adobe portfolio instead.

Congleton sunset (2022-02-25)

What with one thing and another (other photography work, crappy weather, the day job, ongoing pandemic distraction, WWIII, etc) I’ve somewhat reduced the amount of time spent taking photographs for fun. This has lead to A) less content to show you all, B) lower quality content (in my eyes) when I’ve got round to it, and C) getting annoyed that I’ve neglected something I really enjoy.

Budgy at Glebe Farm

“Excuse me madam, can I interest you in me?”

I think part of this is thinking that subject matter not on my “photography aspirations” list is somehow not worth it. Some of the ridiculous places on my list are:

  • The Faroe Islands between Scotland and Iceland (google maps).

  • Fingal's cave off the Isle of Mull in Scotland (google maps).

  • The Dún Briste Sea Stack, North Coast Ireland (google maps).

  • Durdle door, South cost England near Bournemouth (google maps).

  • Stairway To Heaven (epic) and temples, Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie, China (google maps).

Nothing easy then Jon eh?

Instead in the last four months I’ve:

  • Seen some ducks - photos.

  • Been to the woods - photos.

  • Visited a local radio telescope (Jodrell Bank) - photos.

  • Visited a town less than 30 minutes away from home - photos.

  • Taken a photo of a door - photos.

Hardly the cutting-edge pinnacle of photography.

Door…

But I need to force myself to keep going. Use it or lose it as they say. It’s important to strive to visit some impressive places, and I’ll do all these eventually. But in the meantime I’ll keep trying to make the best of my local duck pond! Always bung the camera in the car when you go out; I can’t count the times I’ve been without it in the past and been kicking myself.

I’ve also had somewhat of a YouTube hiatus as well. Though rest assured there are some more photography videos in the works. These take quite some time to produce to a level where I’m happy releasing them. I might also try a one lens challenge this spring/summer when my new toy arrives (something something 50mm f/1.2...).

See you on the flip side.
